Happy 2nd Birthday Sweet Pea!
Dear Sweet Pea,
Happy Birthday my little love! I can’t believe you’re two years old! This past year, you’ve gone from being my little baby to mommy’s big girl. You no longer need your “cacipier” for bedtime and naps and don’t want to be rocked to sleep. You have gone from taking baby steps to taking off running every chance you get. And after today, you start school. But even though you are growing by leaps and bounds, you’re still that same strong-willed, old soul that I gave birth to, two years ago.
As I sat back and thought about you and how truly amazing you are, I couldn’t help but make a list of some of your best qualities. So to take a page out of one of your favorite books, Little Pookie, here are a few things that I love about you!
You’re so determined - No, I mean you’re really determined. The way you conquer obstacles is something beautiful to watch. From mastering climbing on couches and chairs, to figuring out how to lock your baby gate, to learning how to count on your fingers, to opening and breaking down objects by yourself, you don’t stop until you find a solution to your problems. And I hope that as you grow, you maintain that same level of determination.
Your love for music - Baby, I don’t know where you inherited this love of music, but you have had a song in your heart since the day you were born. You’ve gone from humming little melodies that none of us have ever heard before, to making up your own songs (my personal favorite, “Who has to poop? Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!"). You even love making music with your big sister’s xylophone, your dad’s keyboard, and any random surface you can use as your very own drum. I don’t know where this love of music, sounds, and melodies will take you, but just know that Mommy will always be there to support you every step of your journey.
Your big personality - While you were growing in my belly, I prayed for you to have a big, fun personality, and you are more than a joy to be around. You are the most unserious person I know, but in a good way. The way thatyou find humor in everything lights up my day. I love how you can make yourself and others laugh so hard our cheeks begin to hurt and how you are so full of happiness and light. Bad days don’t last very long with you, and I’m so grateful for that.
Your imagination - At just two, you have such a full imagination. I mean, how could I forget you making your bunny talk in that crazy, high-pitched voice? Or naming all your stuffed animals after you. Or how you asked your duckie if it was cold, and then proceeded to pull part of your curtains through your crib to use as a blanket for him. If your imagination is this full now, I can only imagine what it will be like as you continue to grow. And I look forward to seeing where it takes you.
Your love for books and learning - People look at me sideways when I tell them how much you know at such a young age. You already know how to count to 100 and count backwards from ten, all your shapes, colors, the alphabet, and the sound each letter makes. You know your sight words, animals, and their sounds. You even know how to read. Whenever you’re too quiet, I can always find you sitting in your chair or on the floor reading. You call out, grab, and point to the books you want to read. Even when we’re at your favorite indoor playground, you always find a book and a cozy corner to read it. I also love how you stop me in the middle of my work day to demand that we do some kind of learning activity. Whether it’s practicing your flash cards, writing your letters, shapes, numbers, or your name, or just asking me to read to you, your quest for knowledge is truly remarkable. I know that when you start school, you’re going to run circles around your classmates. But always remember to share some of that knowledge with those who may need it. The same way your dad and I share it with you.
In addition to everything mentioned above, I love your confidence, your hugs (and how you always know when to let them linger a little longer), how you know when to say, “I love you,” how you’re not afraid to express big emotions, your independence, and most of all, how you have changed me for the better. Sweet Pea, you are everything I prayed for and more. And I can’t wait to watch you continue to grow into the headstrong, fearless, loving, leader that I know you will be.
Happy Birthday again my little love! May this year be filled with continuous growth, milestones, and laughter.
With Love,
Mommy
